The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has recommended to the Union Home Ministry that cinema halls all over the country be allowed to reopen in August. I&B Secretary Amit Khare has revealed that the recommendation was made and the Home Ministry will take the final call.
According to the recommendation, cinema halls may be allowed to reopen all over India as early as August 1st – or at the latest, around August 31st. They also made a recommendation to ensure two yards of social distancing between the seats.
That would effectively mean the cinemas should operate at 25% of their full capacity. That would be totally unaffordable. Except for the Multiplexes, most cinemas could not afford to bleed so much and moreover for an indefinite time with no clarity about the Corona Curve flattening and the arrival of the vaccine.Follow @THEPANIPURI
