Film Theaters Not To Re-Open in Kerala Despite Govt Nod

Two big Sankranthi releases fail to impress

Kerala Government has allowed the theaters to open from January 5th but the film exhibitors say they are not going to re-open any sooner. They say there is no point in the opening without any package from the state government.

The theater owners are seeking incentives like reduction in fixed electricity charges and tax waivers. On the other side, distributors in Kerala decided not to release new films unless old pending dues are settled by exhibitors. So, this is going to be a deadlock situation.

On the other side, it is known to our readers that a star like Mohanlal had opted to skip the theatrical release of his much-awaited, Drishyam 2. The movie is releasing on Leading OTT, Amazon Prime Video. The premiere date is yet to be announced.
