Bad Strategy Adds Unnecessary Burden To Love Story In US

Naga Chaitanya’s Love Story is the first major theatrical release in Tollywood after the COVID second wave. It is also the biggest release Overseas. The Telugu film industry has got random hits after the second wave but the overseas account is yet to open. The fact is that there is not even a single interesting release after the second wave which would excited the audience there.

Love Story would fit the bill perfectly. Sekhar Kammula’s films are often Overseas audience favorites. So, there is a decent hype around the film. But then, the bad release strategy of the distributor may prove to be costly for the movie. The distributor has planned a massive release for the movie. In the process, some unnecessary theaters that barely add to the revenue were screening the film in many states. These theaters will add no value to the film and will only push the VPF expenses.

As a result, the breakeven which is around $ 1.2 Million will go up to $ 1.5 Million. The COVID cases among our people in Telugu-dominated areas are less right now. People are more confidently moving in public places and are going on holidays. There is a strange mindset in domestic markets where people are confident about going everywhere but apprehensive of watching movies in theaters. So, we will have to see how the audience especially the family audience responds.
